Appliance Door Cautions

Some helpful Hints to Remember and Remind Others when Using Appliances—Simple tips that can save money and help keep frustration away. We have seen the consequences of problems created by Door Slamming so here are some tips to help avoid costly problems.

  • MICROWAVE – Don't Slam the door.  Just push closed.  Slamming can cause the door and/or latch to misalign, and can cause damage to latches and switches that are used when the door is closed.  Slamming can jar internal parts loose causing malfunction, shorts or a fuse to blow.
  • OVEN – Do not put weight on an open door.  For example, do not place a pan on an open door.   Hinges can bend and cause misalignment of door closure, Or worse, hinges can break and cause the oven door to drop.  Oh, no, there goes the Turkey.
  • DRYER – Don't use the open door as a place to drop or fold clothing.  Weight on this door can cause misalignment and the door may not seal well and can cause malfunction.
  • REFRIGERATOR – Don't hold on to or hang on the door.  Everyone finds themselves in this position, so it's a good thing to think about and remind ourselves and others about.
  • DISHWASHERS – Whoops, leaving the door hanging can cause injury if someone is not paying attention and then OOUCH on the leg.  Kids and animals can find a low hanging door and think it looks like a good place to sit.  Also as in other appliances, don't put weight on the door or lean on it.
